For the third year in a row, Karis Church is coming together to serve our neighborhood through the Affordable Christmas program. On December 8th, the Activities Building at 606 Ridgeway Avenue will be transformed into a store for the parents of over 100 local children.
Our hope is to level the playing field that is often stacked against lower-income families during the holiday season. Those invited to attend will be able to purchase toys, books and clothes at 10% of the retail value. Our hope for Affordable Christmas is to serve our neighbors while preserving their dignity and discouraging our volunteers from seeing themselves as a hero or savior.
However, we cannot pull this event off alone. With less than two weeks left, we are still in need of volunteers and donations.
Serving at Affordable Christmas
There are over a dozen ways to serve as a volunteer at Affordable Christmas, and you do not need to be a member of Karis Church to serve in most roles. Many volunteers choose to volunteer on both the day of the event and the day before the event, which we encourage! Here are the options for potential volunteer jobs at Affordable Christmas:
Night Before Affordable Christmas
Day of Affordable Christmas
Childcare Workers (Membership Required)
Transportation (Must have vehicle)
Security (Membership Required)
Cooking a breakfast casserole for shoppers (Must be delivered the morning of event)
Donating to Affordable Christmas
A large number of the gifts our shoppers purchase come from generous donors. There are two ways you can donate gifts to Affordable Christmas:
Purchase items off our Amazon wishlist. These items will be shipped to the Affordable Christmas director.
Visit Karis Church on a Sunday at 10 am and select an item off the Giving Tree to purchase and drop off the next week.
