Introducing DNA Groups

As Pastor Jeff shared this past Sunday, we must battle against our sin and for our faith in community. We greatly need each other. As he put it:

1) See yourself and your sin clearly

2) Don’t try to go it alone

We must lean into each other. Otherwise, we will quickly find ourselves in deep danger. We need constant reminders of the truth of the gospel.

In Karis Church, we’re launching DNA Groups within our Missional Communities. DNA groups are groups of ideally three people - men with men, women with women - who meet together regularly - at least every other week.

DNA stands for the following:

D - Discover - Participants study God’s word together, seeking to hear from God there.

N - Nurture - Members learn to listen well, guiding one another toward heart change.

A - Act - Believers seek to help each other put what God has taught them into action.

Soma, the organization from which we’ve borrowed this model, explains the group’s goal this way:

The overall goal of a DNA group is to foster discipleship relationships that help each person grow to become more like Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. The goal is not merely to hang out and have fun, or even to build friendships, though hopefully all of that will happen! The goal is to challenge one another to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

We’re hosting a special training on how to participate in and even lead a DNA Group. It will be held on Sunday, September 20th, from 1-3 p.m. in the Ridgeway Auditorium. Go here to sign up.

There might not be any ministry more important during these strange times than this. Believers are becoming isolated. We’re all struggling. We need each other. And there also may be nothing more pandemic-proof. Meeting as a group of three - spaced out in a park, or logged on to Zoom - is something easy to pull off and oh, so essential.
