Karis exists to be a gospel community on mission for the city and for the kingdom. As we live out that mission in Columbia's city-center, once a year we draw away, retreat, to the edges of town to relax and enjoy time with each other and to study the scriptures and focus as a church on one topic. It's a time to grow deeper as a believer. It’s also an excellent way to connect with the whole community of Karis, as people from both Gatherings and all serving teams join together.
Our theme for this year's Karis Fall Retreat will focus on the Lord’s Prayer, what is sometimes referred to as the Disciples' Prayer. After a time of praying, one of Jesus' disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray." Together, we'll ask the same, and look at how Jesus teaches us to pray. As we dive deeper, we'll discover how that can shape our hearts and thus our prayers.
For those interested, there will be space to set up tents and camp out overnight. Everyone else can head home to sleep and return again in the morning for breakfast. This will be a weekend of sharing meals, playing games, and singing songs as a family. We’ll pray together. We’ll laugh together. We may even cry together. It will be a great time for the whole family – for those who share your last name, as well as those who claim the name Karis. Gather around the campfire with your church family for a weekend of fun and fellowship.
We want the whole family there: college students, parents, singles, married couples, retirees, adults, teens, and children. The three main sessions will be kid-friendly, so there will be no childcare provided which allows our Karis Kids volunteers to participate fully. The breakout sessions will be broken up by gender, so moms and dads can rotate hanging with the kids and focusing on the lessons.
